This monumental tourmaline is a commanding and visually arresting classic from the storied Cruzeiro Mine. It stands approximately 26 centimeters in height with a 360-degree composition. The specimen displays a dramatic and highly aesthetic color progression, exhibiting a spectrum of colors, from cool blue-green tones to deeply saturated cherry-red terminations. The color zoning is vivid and harmonious, creating a natural “rainbow” effect that becomes especially luminous when backlit, where the crystal glows with remarkable internal life.
The structure is equally compelling. The specimen comprises two distinct crystal habits: secondary crystals with flat, tabular terminations contrast beautifully with the dominant central crystal, which is capped by a sharply defined antilogous termination. This combination of forms adds visual and geologic complexity to the overall composition. Recovered from a pocket that produced only around half a dozen exceptional specimens, this example is widely regarded as the finest of the group. With its exceptional size, saturated color, complete morphology, and undeniable presence, it stands as a masterpiece of Brazilian tourmaline and a benchmark specimen from one of the world’s most important localities.
