Corundum var. Ruby

Los Lamentos Mountains, Municipal de Ahumada, Chihuahua, Mexico

Ruby is a crystallized form of corundum, an aluminum oxide mineral. Its discovery is believed to be as early as 2500 B.C. from the Mogok region of Myanmar (Burma), and it has been loved by man ever since. Crystals with fine form are rare, and those preserved on matrix are even more scarce. This phenomenal ruby possesses a large crimson crystal whose intense color is enhanced by the creamy white marble matrix on which it formed.
