Tourmaline

Pederneira Mine, São José da Safira, Minas Gerais, Brazil

This striking cluster of tourmaline crystals originates from the legendary “Rocket Pocket” of the Pederneira Mine, a locality renowned for producing some of the world’s finest multicolored tourmalines. Informally known as The Take-Off, the specimen is composed of three gem-quality crystals arranged in a dynamic, upward-reaching composition that immediately captures the eye. Its architectural form and sense of motion place it among the most memorable examples to emerge from this celebrated find.

The crystals display exceptional transparency and saturated green-to-blue coloration, accented by subtle tonal shifts that are characteristic of Pederneira’s finest material. Sharp terminations, well-defined prismatic faces, and a bright vitreous luster enhance the specimen’s gemlike presence, while the balanced, whimsical arrangement gives it a sculptural quality rarely achieved in natural clusters. The tiniest accents of lepidolite and albite accent the piece, another nod to its famous locality. Combining its striking and memorable form with outstanding crystal quality, this piece stands as a compelling and highly collectible example from one of tourmaline’s most important modern localities.
