Aquamarine on Quartz

Nyet-Bruk, Braldu Valley, Skardu District, Baltistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan

Aquamarine is the blue variety of beryl and has been prized since antiquity for its clarity, color, and association with the sea. The mines of northern Pakistan are among the few sources capable of producing aquamarine crystals with exceptional color, strong form, and meaningful matrix association, though recovery is extremely difficult due to altitude, climate, and limited seasonal access.

This exceptional specimen was recovered in 2019 from the famed King of Kashmir Pocket at Nyet-Bruk. The lustrous aquamarine crystals display a vivid and evenly saturated sky-blue color, with sharp hexagonal form, smooth glassy faces, and excellent translucency. The dominant crystal exhibits classic beryl morphology, capped by a perfectly flat termination. The aquamarines are complemented by a matrix of translucent quartz accented by stark white albite, creating a sculptural and harmonious composition. The combination of color, pristine crystallography, and overall composition marks this specimen as a world-class example of the species.
