Amethyst

Goboboseb Mountains, Brandberg Area, Erongo Region, Namibia

This exceptional amethyst scepter originates from the Goboboseb Mountains, a region long admired for producing some of the world’s most distinctive quartz specimens. While scepter quartz from the Brandberg area has been known for decades, a limited series of discoveries made between approximately 2015 and 2018 introduced a new standard of refinement, marked by unprecedented sharpness, clarity, and luster. Within that brief window of production, a small number of truly elite examples emerged, and this specimen stands among the finest of that group.

The crystal displays an elegant, well-proportioned scepter form, with an elongated stem that tapers slightly before supporting a sharply defined, perfectly centered scepter head. The amethyst exhibits rich purple coloration combined with exceptional transparency and a bright, glassy luster, qualities rarely achieved simultaneously in scepter growth. The crystal within (the stem) is entirely free-standing, with no points of attachment or contact damage, and is flawless throughout, perfectly suspended. Its pristine point can be seen easily through its transparent crown. Adding further distinction to the piece is its contrasting matrix and accent of white calcite, which provides a striking textural juxtaposition that enhances the crystal’s gemlike presence. In both aesthetic balance and technical perfection, this specimen represents a benchmark example of Brandberg amethyst scepters, and one of the most refined expressions of its kind known from the locality.
