Among the finest expressions of calcite from the famed Elmwood Mine, this exceptional specimen exemplifies the brilliance, clarity, and refined crystallography for which the locality is celebrated. Collected by Mark Kielbaso and later acquired by Daniel Trinchillo, it has long been regarded as one of the most elegant Elmwood calcites he has handled, distinguished by its luminous transparency, exceptional quality, and elegant form.
A complete floater formed during a late-stage episode of crystallization within an open pocket, the crystal displays remarkable optical clarity, allowing the underlying matrix to be seen through the crystal and offering a vivid demonstration of calcite’s characteristic double refraction. It rests upon a sculptural matrix of recrystallized dolostone dusted with quartz, accompanied by a harmonious “sidecar” crystal and several smaller calcites that enhance both balance and visual interest.
